Position Summary 

The Read On! Page Turner will support the implementation of the Read On! reading tutoring program at a partnering elementary school. They will accomplish this by leading the day-to-day program coordination, operations, and managing the crucial relationships at their school site.

Program Coordination and Implementation 

  • Coordinate the day-to day operations of the Read On! program at a partner school to ensure the Read On! curriculum and instruction meet students’ learning needs  

  • Schedule student-tutor pairs and maintain master tutoring schedule  

  • Monitor multiple concurrent sessions for tutor adherence to the Read On! program, curriculum, and methodologies 

  • Provide feedback and guidance to tutors before, during, and after sessions  

 

Read On! Tutoring Responsibilities   

  • As needed, conduct high-quality one-to-one tutoring sessions with striving readers in grades 1-5.  

  • Conduct pre, post- and progress monitoring reading assessments to monitor student growth and inform instruction; in conjunction with 916 Ink Staff create and implement individual student action plans.  

  • Utilize established tutoring expectations and dynamics.   

  • Practice effective student management and engagement.   

 

Relationship Management   

  • Act as an ambassador of 916 Ink and Read On!  

  • Regularly communicate with teachers about the referral process, scheduling, and student performance and program experience 

  • Regularly communicate with students' families about scheduling, tutoring sessions, student performance and program experience  

  • Provide oversight, coaching and guidance to volunteer tutors  

  • Create and maintain positive relationships with students, school staff, families, tutors, and 916 Ink staff and colleagues to create welcoming environments for all 

 

Administrative Duties   

  • Manage student record collection and data input  

  • Maintain essential program documents and trackers  

  • Support writing student progress reports to teachers and families 

  • Participate in monthly staff meetings  

  • Attend required training and professional development sessions 

  • Complete special projects as assigned 

 

Expected Hours  

  • Must be available Monday-Friday between the hours of 8:00-4:30pm 

  • Must be available for in-person work 20-24 hours/week  

  • Must be available for in-person work at least 3 days out of the work week (Monday-Friday) 

  • Must be available for in-person work at one of the following Twin Rivers Unified Elementary Schools: Babcock, Fairbanks, FC Joyce, Michael J. Castori, or Village Elementary 

 

Qualifications  

  • Obtained high school diploma or GED equivalent 

  • Must be able to demonstrate a commitment to 916 Ink’s mission, vision and core values  

  • Demonstrate a passion for working with elementary school aged students 

  • Communicative and reliable attendance 

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills  

  • Execute tasks with multiple step directions 

  • Pay strong attention to detail and manage competing priorities 

  • Demonstrated ability to use critical thinking skills in order to solve problems 

  • Must be able to take direction and carry out assigned tasks with minimal supervision. 

  • Demonstrated ability or track record for establishing strong internal and external working/ professional relationships  

  • Access to reliable transportation to travel to assigned elementary school (Babcock, Fairbanks, FC Joyce, Michael J. Castori, or Village Elementary School) 

  • Must be able to travel to 916 Ink office on occasion 

  • Can quickly learn new technology systems  

Bonus Points if You: 

  • Are a 916 Ink alum or have volunteered with 916 Ink 

  • Have experience volunteering with other community-based or education programs  

  • Have experience with scheduling or coordination 

  • Have experience tutoring  

  • Speak Spanish, Farsi, Hmong, Russian, or Ukrainian 

Upon conditional offer of employment, must be able to:  

  • Provide a list of 2-3 professional and/or personal references.  

  • Provide evidence of ability to live/work in the United States.  

  • Provide evidence that you’re 18 years of age or older.  

  • Must satisfactorily pass criminal background and professional employment background checks.  

 

What Skills and Experiences You Will Gain 

  • Page Turners will gain experience with scheduling and coordination as well as working with diverse groups of people, including but not limited to students, tutors (federal work study, service members, and volunteers), teachers, and families.   

  • Page Turners will gain experience in individualizing instruction and administering assessments, making this an ideal experience for those who wish to pursue a career in education.  

  • Page Turners will also be introduced to concepts in the science of reading, a comprehensive body of research that is empirically supported and provides the information needed to gain a deeper understanding of how we learn to read, what skills are involved, how they work together, and which parts of the brain are responsible for reading development.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Strong hearing and auditory abilities are required.
