Simon Styrsky

Born and raised in Sacramento, Simon has always had a passion for uplifting his community. In 2024 he worked at 916 Ink as an Inspirator through Americorps and had an amazing time writing with students about futuristic robot dogs, aliens invading their middle school, or even epic superhero battles . Now he is back and more excited than ever to work with students in the Read On program. When he isn't at work or creative writing you can find Simon with friends on the dance floor, cooking a new recipe in the kitchen, or crocheting in bed watching one of the worst horror movies you've never heard of. 

Sarah Hashimi

A Page Turner at 916 Ink. Her journey with the organization began as a volunteer through her psychology course at Sac State, where she was building hours toward her community service requirement. Over that year, she watched her students grow in building confidence, hitting milestones, discovering they had real skill as writers and readers. Seeing those moments of progress firsthand is what made her want to come back. She graduated in December 2025 with her Bachelor's in Psychology, and is now continuing her studies toward a Master's degree in Clinical Counseling at the University of the Pacific, carrying forward that same drive to help students grow in their reading comprehension.

Wren Hoggan

A proud Sacramento native. She is a graduate student in Creative Writing and Literature at Sacramento State who is extremely excited to be working with 916 Ink! Wren is an avid writer and poet who has placed first in Sacramento State’s Bazzanella Literary Awards in three different categories over two years. At Sacramento State, she also serves as a section editor in fiction for the university’s Calaveras Station Arts and Literary Journal. Her biggest goal in education and academics is to make learning more accessible, digestible, and surmountable for those from underserved communities. 

In her free time, you can find her writing, reading, making music, birdwatching, running around the city with her lovely friends, playing with her roommate’s two cats, or trying to pick up a brand new hobby. She loves coffee and frogs. 

Nola Briar-Bonpane

I am a Sac State federal work study employee for ReadOn! I am a second year studying social work and this is my second year working for 916Ink. A little bit about me is I am from Humboldt County which is in far northern California. I love spending time with friends and getting outside. Excited for this new year!

Andy Tran

I was born in Houston, Texas to a Vietnamese immigrant household where multiple languages were always spoken all at the same time. This blending of culture was deeply influential to my identity. As a current UC Davis student pursuing a BA in psychology and a minor in Asian American Studies, I am learning how to become a steward in the communities I live in. The mission of 916 Ink to provide literacy tutoring to school children in the Sacramento area is exactly the kind of cultivation within communities that I am so excited to support. 

In my free time I love traveling to new countries, cooking Vietnamese food, and playing video games!

Jna Altabaa

Originally from Syria and currently living in Sacramento, California. I am a student at UC Davis, where I am double majoring in Political Science – Public Service and Human Development. After graduating, I plan to attend law school and hope to pursue a career in healthcare law.

This is my second year tutoring with 916 Ink as part of the Read On! program. I enjoy seeing the progress my students make throughout the year and watching them become more confident in their reading. My students bring so much joy to my day, and tutoring has become something I genuinely look forward to.

Outside of classes and work, I’m usually baking, going on little trips with family and friends, or trying out a new matcha place.

Alana Choe

I am currently a student at Sac State. I’m a Studio Art major with an Art Education minor, hoping to pursue a career in teaching. I was born and raised in Santa Rosa, CA and am an avid Snoopy fan. 

Reading was one of the first ways I got to practice my creativity. I remember writing stories in homemade books and completing my reading log for pizza parties, all fond memories I still hold close to my heart. My favorite books are especially graphic novels! Books like The Magic Fish, On a Sunbeam, and Gender Queer inspire me in all aspects of my life, and encourage me to mix my love of reading with my love of art. 

When I’m not drawing, I like to go on little trips! I like hiking at the beach or redwoods and going to concerts. If I’m at home, I love watching movies and playing video games. 

Manjinder Singh

I was born in Hayward, California and raised in Fremont, California until the age of 17. I later than moved to Sacramento to attend school at Sacramento State University, where I am majoring in Business Entrepreneurship. I plan to graduate in the spring of 2028 with a business degree and use what I have learned to pursue my future career goals. Outside of school, I enjoy playing basketball, trying new foods, hiking, and spending time with my friends and family.

Danielle Jackson

I'm currently a full-time student at Sacramento State University with two jobs. I'm an undergraduate Journalism major with a Counseling minor, hoping to pursue a master's in counseling. I want to pursue a broadcast journalism career, but I will pursue a career in Family and Couple's counseling as an alternative. I was born and raised in Sacramento, CA and I'm obsessed with Marvel and DC. Thank You to Smallville Clark Kent, Tom Holland's Peter Parker, and Wanda Maximoff! Outside of school, I enjoy binge-watching shows and going to the movie theater and trying new hangout spots with my friends and family.

Jonathan Mosley

Born and raised in Los Angeles, Jonathan moved to Sacramento in 2024 and is now a junior at Sacramento State pursuing a bachelor's in English literature. During his time at Sacramento City College, Jonathan’s passion for literature grew along with his aspirations of becoming a literature teacher. As a lifelong reader and writer, he hopes to spread the joy of literacy to his future students. 

In his free time, you can find Jonathan playing video games, reading manga, learning French, watching pro wrestling, or entertaining crowds as pro wrestler Yoseph Steel.
