Announcing Young Storytellers Month!
WHEREAS, 916 Ink recognizes that through the power of the written word, young people can discover their voices and, through storytelling, build the confidence and skills to express themselves while affirming that their words and experiences matter; and,
WHEREAS, during Young Storytellers Month, our entire community has the opportunity to serve as an amplifier for creative youth voices at a time when encouragement, connection, and expression are especially meaningful; and,
Education and Self-Expression are Connected
WHEREAS, students should be heard and respected regardless of their circumstances, identities, or backgrounds, and provided meaningful opportunities to share their stories in collaborative spaces that support them in reaching their goal; and,
WHEREAS, education should be fun, engaging, authentic, and rooted in kindness in order to help creative minds grow and spark imagination in ways that foster lifelong learning and communication skills; and,
Ink is doing the work!
WHEREAS, 916 Ink has published 350 anthologies featuring the poetry and prose of more than 7,000 youth authors across the Sacramento region and supported hundreds of students through its Read On! program to meet literacy milestones and expand their communication skills; and,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that 916 Ink hereby proclaims the month of March of 2026 as Young Storytellers Month, and encourages all residents to celebrate and support the young storytellers and confident readers of our community by helping to amplify their voices and recognize their power.
