916 Ink is Sacramento’s arts-based literacy nonprofit that provides creative writing workshops and literacy tutoring for low-income and at-risk youth, grades 1-12, in order to transform them into confident readers, writers, and published authors. By creating published youth authors, we create lifelong readers and articulate communicators who know the power of their own story.
POSITION SUMMARY: The Community Liaison/Book Builder will support the development, recruitment, and management of volunteers by investigating best practices for volunteer generation, appreciation, and retention. Help to develop a series of volunteer trainings and provide direct oversight and feedback to new volunteers as they get accustomed to their responsibilities. They will also be a member of the student publication team, providing valuable coordination and support to ensure that all elements of student publication are carried out to a high standard.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Review current organizational/regional tools and strategies related to volunteer onboarding experience; identify gaps and areas of improvement to best evaluate current onboarding experience.
· Propose and implement new strategies to improve volunteer onboarding.
· Review existing data analysis systems for measuring engagement and satisfaction of new and current volunteers; identify gaps and areas of improvement.
· Research and support the adoption of strategies and best practices for volunteer satisfaction and engagement
· Investigate and implement strategies and best practices for volunteer appreciation. Create materials for volunteer appreciation.
· Research, propose and implement strategies to increase volunteer retention
· Monitor program manuscripts throughout semester for content, length, and errors Communicate with workshop facilitators and volunteers regarding manuscript progress, edit and format completed manuscripts following 916 Ink Style Guide to prepare for design
· Refine and document editing and formatting procedures based on the 916 Ink Style Guide to ensure consistent quality and ease of training for volunteers.
· Develop communication systems and outreach materials to streamline how information about book release events is shared with families, program participants, and other stakeholders.
QUALIFICATIONS:
· Minimum 18 years of age.
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills
· Minimum of one year of work experience in copyediting/book publication, or experience working in an editorial setting.
· Excellent communication skills including phone, in person and electronically.
· Strong critical thinking skills with the ability to analyze data and solve problems
· A deep commitment to the mission, vision and values of 916 Ink.
· Strong attention to detail.
· Ability to take direction and carry out assigned tasks.
· Ability to establish good working relationships with internal and external persons
· Ability to work in a collaborative environment with a diverse team.
· Must be able to work a flexible schedule including occasional nights and weekends.
· Must have access to reliable transportation
· Must be able to travel between sites and offsite events as needed.
