Job purpose

The At-Promise Youth Wordslinger provides high-quality literary arts education through facilitating 916 Ink’s At Promise youth "Find Your Voice" Creative Writing Workshop curriculum in at-promise classrooms, afterschool and field trip settings for students in grades 3-12.

Duties and responsibilities

Workshop Facilitation

· Deliver Curriculum: Facilitate 916 Ink’s creative writing methodology in classroom, after-school, and community/facility settings for youth.

· Model Writing: Write and share original work alongside students to foster trust and mutual vulnerability.

· Guide & Encourage: Introduce literary devices, poetry forms, and genre studies while offering supportive, constructive feedback.

· Classroom & Group Management: Maintain a trauma-informed, culturally sensitive space adhering to 916

Ink’s workshop guidelines.

· Celebrate Student Success: Facilitate end-of-program Book Release Parties where youth read their published work aloud to friends, family, and community members.

Administrative & Program Operations

· Punctuality & Prep: Arrive early to set up workshop spaces and prepare materials.

· Volunteer Coordination: Direct and support volunteer "Inspirators" assisting during workshops.

· Record Keeping: Track student attendance and collect enrollment, evaluation, and permission documents.

· Manuscript Management: Digitally assemble and track student writing throughout the program term to prepare texts for publishing.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

· Age: 18 years or older.

· Experience: Background or passion in youth development, creative writing, teaching, social work, or community organizing.

· Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills; comfortable speaking to groups and facilitating discussions.

· Interpersonal Skills: Deep empathy, active listening, and the ability to build rapport with at-promise, system-impacted, or low-income youth.

· Transportation: Access to reliable transportation to travel to assigned program sites across Sacramento County

· Clearances: Must pass background checks (fingerprinting/Livescan) and meet partner site clearance requirements prior to start date.

· Must possess a valid driver’s license with reliable transportation. If you drive your own automobile on

company related business, must show evidence of current automobile insurance Bonus / Desired Qualifications

· Experience working with foster youth, justice-involved youth, neurodivergent youth, or unhoused youth.

· Experience in creative writing, editing, or literary arts instruction.

· Fluency in Spanish or other languages spoken in Sacramento communities.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
