What is 916 Ink?  It’s a place... It’s an idea...  It’s:

“Where ideas get planted
and stories sprout.
And emotions and feelings
are safely aired out.
A calm sanctuary
where acceptance is taught.
Where a notebook is healing
and a refuge for thought.”

These lines come from An Ode to Ink, an original poem written by award-winning children’s author JaNay Brown-Wood about 916 Ink and the impact we can have on students.  I have attached a few of the draft pages in case you want to take a quick peek!

This year, we are celebrating 15 years as an organization. Since 2011, we have helped more than 8,000 young people become published authors and tutored hundreds of students to reach their grade level reading goals! To mark this anniversary, we are hoping to turn JaNay’s poem into 916 Ink’s first published children’s book. Learn more about us at: www.916ink.org

This will be a 28 page professionally illustrated and printed high-quality children’s book. We will initially print a limited first edition of 200 copies to be used as a message amplifier and in-class instructional material! We are also planning a book launch featuring JaNay in conversation with some of our young authors.  As the second installment of our Passing the Pen Series, JaNay will answer (and ask) questions of a select number of our young people.  We intend to conduct the book launch in Mid to Late November, but we need some help to make this a reality!

We are seeking 5 - $1,000 Publishing Sponsors to help us bring An Ode to Inkto life. These sponsors would fully cover the approximately $4,000 cost of illustration and printing, with the remaining support helping with the book launch and distribution.  Publishing rights to the written work have been graciously donated.   916 Ink is a 501(c)3 nonprofit and the sales of this book will directly support our after school writing programs.

The Publishing Sponsor will receive:

  • Quarter page Logo and recognition in every copy as an official Publishing Sponsor

  • Recognition at the book launch

  • Recognition in emails, social media, and other promotion of the book

  • Recognition during our Publishers Club and year-end campaigns

  • 10 copies of the book to share as you would like.

An Ode to Ink captures what we have spent 15 years building: a place where young people are heard, supported, and celebrated as authors. We would be honored to have you partner with us as the Publishing Sponsor of 916 Ink’s first children’s book.
