916 Ink’s free after-school program dedicated to creative writing for students of all grades and skill-levels. Students do not need to have previous 916 Ink program experience to participate.

For 916 Ink’s previously published authors, the Author’s Lab is an opportunity to dive deeper into the craft of storytelling, poetry, and creative nonfiction. Grades 6-12 only, students must have completed a Word Squad or other 916 Ink Program.

All of our Word Squad and Author’s Lab Sessions will be held in 916 Ink's "Imaginarium," at 3301 37th Avenue, Sacramento, CA. Both programs will run at the same time, on the same day, but will be run as separate programs.

When: Tuesdays, September 17 to December 10, 2019

Time: 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Word Squad and Author’s Lab are drop-in programs. Students can be checked in or checked out any time between 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.

Students in 916 Ink's after-school creative writing clubs will:

  • Learn to write poetry, fiction and creative nonfiction

  • Learn how to give and receive positive feedback and encouragement

  • Polish, edit and revise their work for publication 

  • Become a published author in a professionally-produced book of student work
    (Each student receives two free copies of their book.)

  • Have the opportunity to practice their public speaking skills in front of friends and family at a book release and reading party
